To Video or Not to Video
OK,… I know how to video on my Pixel phone. It is slick, easy and looks very nice as an mp4 file. I can also video on my 5 year old Nikon camera but it is a pain and ends up as an .mov file which is no longer top drawer. The question confronting me currently is do I really want to become a videographer or is my imputing video in place of descriptive text just me giving into the realities of modern life? Here I must face my Cognitive Dissonance X 3.
First of all, I started my life as an adult through the lens of a Canon AT1 and stored my world on slide film. That way I could communicate without having to use verbiage. Yes, this was a mechanical camera (kinda) with a match needle. I walked around with 35 lbs of lens options. (Note that I still have 2 removable lenses on my Nikon). And now I have sunk to communicating via a blog using words: Dissonance #1. My wife (Sally) constantly harangues me with the demeaning phrase “USE YOUR WORDS.”
Dissonance #2. I watch You Tube videos!! But a lot of these are up to an hour long and deal in depth with whatever subject I am researching. I have to admit that they provide me with information that I can cross reference as well as provide me with a convenient method of recall since I now know the fallacy of total recall.
Dissonance #3. Video Shorts. The bane of intelligent life. If I break down and use 1 minute video (which I have on this site) have I crossed the boundary from Cognitive Dissonance and entered the Sunk Costs Fallacy? Ah-h, c'est la vie.
