It is time to take a few minutes, to sit down, take a breath, and return to an earlier time... A time when there was enough time to listen to a short story.

The Old Woman and the Loom

The Old Woman and the Loom

A Short Story by Hazel Parks Smith

Hazel in 1971

Hazel had 3 cars… all of the Chevrolets.

This one was the one I suspect she was driving in this story. The next one was a dark blue 1959 Chevy. It was the one she and I used to do most of our carousing in. The final car was a 1966 model that ended up with my brother when he was in St Louis after Mom pulled her license. There was a story floating around Nashua, Iowa when I was around 20 that some Nashua local told me: When Hazel drove to the post office (Box 209) to get her mail everyone pulled to the side of the road. My dad also said that she drove by sound.
