Sally has boundless creativity

Here will be listed her crafted animal motifs on mirrors, her walking sticks created with local Chequamegon Diamond Willow as well as other hardwoods that she harvests herself, strips, stains, and finishes.

It all begins with an idea.

These are One-Of-A-Kind works of art. Signed by its creator, Sally Rasmussen

Sally likes bears…. She likes black bears but not so much grizzly bears. She likes old mirrors. Not so much fancy ornate mirrors. Mirrors that would have had a home in rural Taylor County in 1900. You can just imagine how many people have looked in an old mirror. There is no value intrinsically in an old mirror. Perhaps she can combine the two.

There used to be a heron rookery on South Twin Lake, just a mile up the road from our home when Sally was a child. She remembers her father talking about it being across from the cabin and north at the end of the lake. When she was living in the cabin as an adult she saw herons hunting along the bank in front of the cabin. Attached is a video of a heron rookery in Wisconsin but not here. A very cool bird.

I wish to mention the creator of this fine piece of art. Please click on the image.

These are Sally’s one of a kind unique Wooden Walking Sticks.

Sally walks around the Chequamegon near our home and finds an interesting piece of woods and harvests it. She takes it home where she strips it. She then sands it. Stains it, and ornaments with whatever trips her fancy.

A fox is a fox. And a fox loves to torment dogs because it is so easy, dogs being SO stupid. Sally and Tom have many interactions with foxes. We really do think this is because it is so much fun for a fox to make a fool of a dog.

It tends to make us laugh along with the fox.

Antique mirror with fox face and skeleton found on our place

This fox died in the woods by us. Tom found it last fall and left it be. Sally checked it out this spring after it had time to be consumed by another critter in the forest. But it was all still there and Sally thought it was fair game for us to harvest for her art.
